🎓 Education
Southwestern Michigan Urban League is launching its Rebuilding Hope, Restoring Opportunities financial literacy program for 600 local youth and adults, with recruitment in January and workshops in February – to build practical skills in banking, budgeting and homeownership.
The Battle Creek Community Foundation will support the program with grant funding.
On Wednesday, Congressman Bill Huizenga nominated 14 students from west and southwest Michigan for U.S. Service Academies for the class of 2030; his office noted the nomination does not guarantee admission (students include candidates from Holland Christian and Mattawan High among local schools).

Dr. Diana Bitner of True Women's Health advises local residents to set S.M.A.R.T. goals (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, timely) as the new year unfolds.
Her guidance aims to help residents lower risks like diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
