- ➤ Charitable Union relaunched its free prom dress giveaway for high schoolers at its store on 85 Calhoun St. (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday), where students must show valid school ID and may donate gently used or new dresses. - ➤ Humane Society of West Michigan hosts Pet Adoption Tuesday with friendly pup Kahran awaiting a new home. A free vaccine clinic for first responders and veterans will run Thursday, Apr. 2 at Plainfield Township Fire Department — and a spring break camp for kids is scheduled Apr. 6–9. FOX 17

- ➤ Hummingbirds will return to Michigan by mid-to-late spring as they finish their northward migration, and residents can welcome them by setting up a feeder (with store-bought or homemade nectar) in their yards. Battle Creek Enquirer

- ➤ Michigan Social Security beneficiaries follow a normal April schedule; SSI payments roll out today and regular benefits will be sent on April 8, 15, and 22 based on recipients' birth dates. Battle Creek Enquirer
- ➤ Battle Creek will begin its weekly curbside yard waste collection Monday, April 6 through Friday, December 4. Residents must place yard waste at the curb by 6 a.m. on their regular pickup day — bag leaves and grass, tie branches, and note that pumpkins in October and November will be collected. 102.7 WFAT
- ➤ The Battle Creek VA Medical Center will receive nearly $14.5 million to upgrade HVAC systems + safety features including elevator replacement and sump pump installation following an announcement by Congressman Bill Huizenga under the Veterans Health Administration’s Non-Recurring Maintenance Program.
