- ➤ The Michigan Department of Education approved new mentorship standards for teachers, counselors, and administrators yesterday (Apr. 20) to address teacher shortages and boost retention in area schools. The guidelines require a three-year mentoring period and 15 days of professional learning and were developed with Western Michigan University. Michigan Public Radio
- ➤ Marty Martin has been named as Pennfield High School's fourth athletic director and will take over this June when Brett Steele retires—he is currently shadowing Steele to learn the role and plans to make key hires for football and winter sports. Battle Creek Enquirer
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Lyme disease cases in Michigan rose from 553 in 2022 to 2,167 in 2025, placing the state in a high-incidence category. Health officials urge Battle Creek residents to use EPA-approved repellent, check for ticks after outdoor activities, + stick to clear trails to reduce exposure. Michigan Public Radio
