  • Pet Adoption Tuesday took place this week at Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary, where they featured Khaleesi, a three-year-old pup known for her gentle nature. She was noted for being a loving lap dog & comfortable with cats.  FOX 17

  • Busch Light Apple, a limited edition beer, was released on Monday, Apr. 20 and is available at local retailers while supplies last. Anheuser-Busch is also running a drawing with Trackhouse Racing to offer fans a one-day NASCAR contract.  Battle Creek Enquirer
  • A Battle Creek casino guest won a $599,527 jackpot on April 12 by playing the Bride of Frankenstein slot machine in the new Light & Wonder Lane gaming section at FireKeepers Casino Hotel.   • Aurora North America and FS-BF North America opened their joint facility on a portion of the former DeltaPlex property on Hillside Drive in Walker on Tuesday, April 21 — the $10 million building is set to hire over 40 workers when production reaches full capacity by 2030.  FOX 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Lyrid meteor shower, peaking overnight from April 21-22, offers up to 20 meteors per hour where skies are clear, with northern Michigan providing the best view while southern areas may see rain & clouds.  Battle Creek Enquirer
  • Today the Cereal City Concert Band received a $20,000 grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and the National Endowment for the Arts — funds that will expand its programs, performance opportunities, and community engagement.  Battle Creek Enquirer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Gardening in Battle Creek may face more frosts before early June, as the average last freeze is May 7; data from the National Weather Service & Midwestern Regional Climate Center show that temperatures are expected to dip again in the mornings.  Battle Creek Enquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two local officers were honored today at a Bronson Sexual Assault Services benefit dinner. Calhoun County deputy Matthew Schimmel received an award for his school safety programs, and Marshall Police detective Erin Hug was recognized for creating a soft interview room to support survivors.  Battle Creek Enquirer
  • The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is boosting traffic enforcement today as construction leads to detours and heavier roads. Drivers are advised to follow posted speed limits — staying alert on all routes.  Battle Creek Enquirer
