ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning near Marshall on I-94, the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office reported that alcohol was a factor in a wrong-way crash when a highly-intoxicated 50-year-old man from Lansing drove his pickup truck into another car; both passengers in the other vehicle were injured and taken to the hospital while eastbound lanes remained closed overnight.  FOX 17
  • Deputies said a wrong-way pickup truck driven by a highly intoxicated 50-year-old Lansing man crashed on I-94 near Marshall around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday—sending two people to the hospital and causing the eastbound lanes to close until reopening at 4:30 a.m.  WOOD TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A 50-year-old Lansing man drove the wrong way on I-94 near Battle Creek at 3:20 a.m. on April 22 and struck another vehicle, injuring two people, before police arrested him for high intoxication and later reopened the eastbound lanes.  Battle Creek Enquirer
  • A 50-year-old man from Lansing drove wrong-way on I-94 near the 107-mile marker at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, causing a multi-vehicle crash that led to his arrest and left two passengers at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall—injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.  102.7 WFAT

  • Early risers in Michigan will see a rare triple conjunction on April 25 at 5:30 a.m.—the formation shows Venus, Saturn and the crescent moon arranged to form a smiley face when viewed sideways, with Mercury low on the horizon.   • Staff at the Grand Rapids Diocese learned early Monday that Pope Francis passed away, and Catholics in West Michigan are mourning his loss. Community members recall his kind leadership and personal touches that united people and left a deep impact.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pennfield High School named three-sport stars Brevin Bailey and Natalie Hensel as valedictorian and salutatorian—Bailey earned a 4.54 GPA while Hensel earned a 4.51 GPA. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Education will resume involuntary collections on May 5 by garnishing paychecks—targeting borrowers who have missed payments for 270 days or more and affecting Michigan's 1.3 million indebted residents. Borrowers can still avoid the garnishment by choosing repayment plans, loan rehabilitation or consolidation.  Battle Creek Enquirer
