- ➤ Calhoun County will hold a household hazardous waste, appliances plus electronics and scrap metal collection event on Monday, April 28 at Bailey Park at 1350 Capital Ave. NE from 12 to 5:30 p.m. Residents can drop off accepted items such as oil-based paint, fuels, and batteries while leaving out trash and other non-qualified waste. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kellogg Community College opened its annual Student Art Show on April 16 at the Eleanor R. and Robert A. DeVries Gallery at its Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center in Battle Creek, where nearly 140 pieces by 60 student artists are on display for free until May 2. Today, the college hosts an awards ceremony from 5 to 7 p.m. to honor the top student works. Battle Creek Enquirer

- ➤ Calhoun County Parks and Recreation will host a ribbon cutting for the renovated Ott Biological Preserve trailhead on Friday, May 2 at 1 p.m. at 1129 Olive Street in Battle Creek — where upgrades include a new parking lot, bathroom facility with a water-bottle fill station, picnic benches, landscaping and a 6-foot entrance path — funded by county millage funds and a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant. 102.7 WFAT

- ➤ Michigan residents must update their IDs to Real ID by May 7 for domestic flights, federal sites, military bases and nuclear plants—more than 74% have already upgraded as the Secretary of State Office adds appointments to help avoid travel delays. Battle Creek Enquirer
