- ➤ A sinkhole collapsed a 25 x 20 feet section of Riverside Drive north of Columbia Avenue early Friday during sewer repair work and one car sustained damage though no injuries were reported—city crews closed the road between Columbia Avenue and Territorial Road E and are using an excavator to bypass the sewer. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Travelers without a Real ID can use a federally approved passport or other TSA-approved documents for domestic flights—extra screening may be required if identity is not quickly confirmed—and drivers must update their licenses at local Secretary of State offices before May 7 to avoid travel issues. - ➤ A bill in Lansing would extend workers’ compensation to part-time and on-call firefighters injured on duty but leaves volunteer firefighters without coverage. Volunteer firefighter Gilbert Flores from Grant Township, who suffered a serious heart condition while fighting a brush fire and underwent triple bypass surgery, said the gap is unfair—full-time firefighters receive benefits while volunteers do not.
