The national average was $3.15 per gallon, making Midwest prices about 3.8% lower than the nation’s overall cost.
On Tuesday, May 6, Battle Creek voters passed a bond proposal with 56% support to provide $27.5M for Battle Creek Public Schools; the funds will be used to upgrade buildings and improve school safety without raising debt millage rates.
This measure is expected to bring long-needed improvements to the district’s facilities.
Bellah (an energetic and well-trained dog) is now available for adoption from Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary; the sanctuary seeks homes with secure fenced yards (ensuring her safety and well-being).
Addison Nicolich is playing her junior soccer season for Harper Creek in honor of her father, who died on March 6 after battling pancreatic cancer—her teammates wear special ribbons and patches as they prepare for the All-City Girls Soccer Tournament on May 10.
Scott Miles now owns the Battle Creek Battle Jacks after purchasing the team from Brian Colopy and plans to support local baseball.
He has renewed the lease at C.O. Brown Stadium for five years—an option for an extra five—and the team will prepare for its home opener on Memorial Day.
Kellogg Community College baseball will begin its postseason play today at Grand Rapid Community College at 1 p.m. The team earned its 19th straight berth in the NJCAA Region XII Tournament after finishing second in its division (if it wins, it will advance to the semifinals in Jackson from May 15 to May 17).
