GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorneys for Michigan and environmental groups argued Friday that a federal order forcing Consumers Energy to keep the aging Campbell coal plant open was illegal because the department falsely claimed an energy emergency. They said closing the plant as planned would have saved nearly $600 million for local ratepayers. Michigan Public Radio
- ➤ The Natural Resources Commission approved a one buck rule that limits hunters in the Lower Peninsula to one antlered deer per season starting March 1, 2027. The commission also eliminated the limited rifle zone for 2026 to encourage more selective hunting. FOX 17

- ➤ Tri County's Savanah Thompson beat the MHSAA record for career soccer goals—surpassing 228—on Monday during the tournament title game versus Big Rapids. The senior finished her last school day yesterday and will play at Saginaw Valley State University while pursuing a nursing degree. FOX 17
