CRIME NEWS

  • 15-year-old Glenn Lee Brown went missing from Pennfield High School on May 7 and was found safe on Friday when officials spotted him on a train heading to Chicago — he has been reunited with his family as authorities investigate his route.  102.7 WFAT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Severe storms on May 15th and 16th caused five tornadoes and high winds that left over 150,000 customers without power on May 17th, including outages near Battle Creek from an EF0 tornado in Calhoun County. Consumers Energy said power will be restored in some areas today & full restoration in Lansing will take until May 21st.  Battle Creek Enquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Battle Creek Central Bearcats girls flag football team, which played at Ford Field last spring in their first season, is set to play their final regular season game today at Colon to try to earn a spot in the postseason tournament—one of three local teams competing in the growing Michigan Girls High School Flag Football League. The league began with a pilot program by the Detroit Lions and has expanded rapidly since its debut in spring 2023.  Battle Creek Enquirer
  • On May 16 at Williamston High School, both the Harper Creek boys and girls track teams won regional titles—scoring 130 and 116.5 points respectively—with standout performances from several athletes. The wins marked Harper Creek’s first boys track regional championship since 2013 and added to a strong season of rival battles.  Battle Creek Enquirer
