ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 70-year-old Battle Creek man died when his bicycle was struck by a vehicle in the Urbandale neighborhood late Sunday, May 18 at around 11:20 p.m.—police said a 24-year-old Kalamazoo woman fled the scene, is now in jail, and alcohol and marijuana may have played a role in the accident. - ➤ Scammers have been texting Michigan residents claiming unpaid toll fees even though Michigan has no toll roads—state officials warn not to click on links or share personal details. MDOT and the FTC advise reporting these messages and deleting them to avoid further fraud. Battle Creek Enquirer
- ➤ A team of assessors from the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission will visit Battle Creek on May 27th to review the police department’s policies, procedures and support services as part of its voluntary accreditation process. The department invites public comments from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on May 27th — callers are limited to five minutes to address the department’s ability to meet 108 standards. City of Battle Creek
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Bronson Cancer Center in Battle Creek has installed a new linear accelerator that uses precise radiation to treat cancer thanks to a $3 million donation from Bronson Battle Creek Hospital Community Partners. The machine targets cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue — part of the donation will fund facility upgrades at Bronson’s Mawby Center. Battle Creek Enquirer
