- ➤ On Aug. 2, the Whack For Warmth golf fundraiser will be held at Cedar Creek Golf Course at 14000 Renton Road with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The event costs $400 per four-person team and will support Community Action of South Central Michigan’s Emergency Assistance Program that helps families in Barry, Branch, Calhoun, Kalamazoo and St. Joseph counties — registrations and sponsorships are due by July 25. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lawmakers and local advocates have proposed legislation to require water safety lessons in Michigan schools after about 100 drownings occur on the Great Lakes each year — the bill is in early stages in the House and Senate and supporters hope the curriculum will be adopted by next fall. FOX 17
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Advocates in West Michigan met to discuss proposed changes to Medicaid under the 'One Big Beautiful Bill' passed by the House but awaiting Senate review. The changes could reduce coverage for about 30% of beneficiaries and cost the state $1.1 billion annually—adding pressure on hospitals and nursing homes. FOX 17

- ➤ Harper Creek won the All-City boys golf tournament at Cedar Creek Golf Course on May 22, led by senior Joey Mario who repeated as match medalist and helped set a new school record with a team score of (291) that beat the previous mark of (302).
