- ➤ Joann said that its remaining Michigan stores, including the Battle Creek store, will close permanently by May 31 after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year—14 Michigan stores and 255 nationwide have already shut down. Battle Creek Enquirer
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A man who was reportedly suicidal from Marshall was fatally shot by a sheriff’s deputy in Calhoun County on May 28th after he pointed a gun at an officer—no deputies were hurt and a press briefing will share more details today. FOX 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Battle Creek Public Works Department rescheduled its annual Open House to July 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 150 S. Kendall St.—the event was moved from prior dates due to severe storms so staff can focus on cleanup, and it will offer city vehicle demonstrations, a scavenger hunt, giveaways, music and food from a truck.
