- ➤ Governor Whitmer created the Every Child Reads Champions Council to boost kids' literacy amid falling test scores. - ➤ Veterinarians in West Michigan recommend that pet owners use tick prevention products and perform regular tick checks after tests show a 10% exposure rate among animals; they warn that Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses are a growing risk — especially in residential areas and dog parks.
