LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Michigan boaters will enjoy a range of water spots this summer including inland lakes, the Great Lakes and local Gull Lake near Battle Creek. Officials say boaters must register their boats and follow safety rules—such as wearing life jackets and obeying alcohol limits—to have a safe day on the water.  Battle Creek Enquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • On May 31 at Hamilton High School, Harper Creek made history when junior DJ Wood won both the 110-meter hurdles in 14.15 and the 300 hurdles in 39.24—achieving the school’s first two-event state championship while his team earned five all-state honors. Marshall also showed strong local success as Jack Bidwell captured state titles in the 1,600 (4:14.95) and the 3,200 (9:12.13) races—highlighting a competitive day in local track events.  Battle Creek Enquirer
  • In Saturday's district baseball tournaments, Lakeview, coming off a 14 to 16 record, won its title with a 38 to 0 win over Battle Creek Central after a 6 to 4 win over Holt and Gull Lake claimed a championship with a 14 to 2 win after a 5 to 3 win over Harper Creek. Lakeview will face Okemos in a Division 1 regional semifinal at East Lansing at 5 p.m. Wednesday and Gull Lake will play No. 17 Hopkins in a Division 2 regional semifinal at Harper Creek at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Battle Creek Enquirer

  • Coldwater’s young softball team won the Division 2 district title on May 31 when it beat Harper Creek 8—0 after a 13—0 win over Marshall, while Lakeview lost 9—6 in extra innings to Dexter in the Division 1 semifinal; teams in other divisions also advanced as Kalamazoo Christian, Bronson, Portland St. Patrick, and Mendon secured wins to move forward.  Battle Creek Enquirer
