- ➤ An 18-year-old Battle Creek man was killed in a rollover crash early Monday morning on Irving Park Drive while a 17-year-old passenger remains hospitalized with serious injuries—police arrested the 18-year-old driver on charges of driving while intoxicated and reckless driving causing death and serious injury. 102.7 WFAT

- ➤ The Cereal City Concert Band announced that Doris Doyon will be its new conductor starting August 1—she replaces Stephen White who left in July. Doyon brings over 20 years of experience leading school and community ensembles and was trained at UCLA. Battle Creek Enquirer
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Michigan remains under an air quality alert today due to smoke from 81 uncontrolled wildfires in Canada that has impacted the Upper Peninsula, northern Michigan, and parts of the Thumb. Officials advise residents (especially those with heart or lung issues) to stay indoors (using air filters or air conditioning) as warm, dry conditions may worsen pollution into Tuesday. - ➤ Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport will begin a 450-foot runway extension next spring using a $14.1 million FAA grant—funds meant to improve safety and reduce delays.
