CULTURE NEWS

  • A new list names seven Michigan museums that are worth a visit and provides key details on exhibits, hours and costs. Marshall’s American Museum of Magic—only a 30-minute drive from Battle Creek—offers magic shows every Saturday at 1 p.m. and displays thousands of artifacts while other museums in Portage, Paradise, Flint, Detroit, Dearborn and Houghton highlight unique local and state history.  Battle Creek Enquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel joined twenty states in a lawsuit to block FEMA cuts that would endanger $29 million in BRIC grants—funding planned for stormwater, flood, and shelter projects designed to protect communities from natural disasters. The suit argues that reducing these funds will force delays or cancellations of essential projects and put lives at risk.  Michigan Public Radio
  • Battle Creek will build a new fire station after the city commission changed its plan from renovating Station 1 and Station 3 to constructing a new Station 3 nearby while scaling down Station 2. The project is $8-million over its initial $25-million budget — commissioners will decide in August whether to bond the extra funds or make further cuts.  102.7 WFAT
  • State lawmakers introduced 24 bills on July 11 that would require health departments to educate the public about menopause and update medical training for providers. The Michigan Women’s Commission is holding town hall meetings across the state so women can share their experiences — Dr. Diana Bitner said these meetings help address gaps such as insurance coverage and workplace support.  FOX 17
