- ➤ God's Kitchen of Michigan will host free barbecue dinners at 5 p.m. July 23 at First United Methodist Church in Battle Creek — serving barbecue chicken or ribs, corn-on-the-cob, macaroni salad, baked beans, dessert and bottled water — and at 5 p.m. July 24 at Flesher Field in Oshtemo Township, with meals offered on a first-come, first-served basis. - ➤ Calhoun County Senior Services is accepting nominations for the 2025 Joanne Konkle Leadership Award—an honor for those who have significantly impacted the lives of older adults. The nomination deadline is Aug. 21 and the award recipient will be recognized on Sept. 18 during the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners meeting. Battle Creek Enquirer
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Michigan will soon send letters to more than 210,000 residents to confirm the erasure of $144 million in medical debt + those earning no more than four times the federal poverty level and owing at least 5 percent of their yearly income qualify for this relief from nonprofit Undue Medical Debt. Kent and Calhoun counties have already seen debt reduction efforts under this state initiative. FOX 17

- ➤ Officials adjusted the 2025 Cereal City Triathlon route yesterday in Battle Creek after Watkins Road closed for construction, which shortened the bike course by more than a mile. Sean Siems from Kalamazoo won the race in 52:16 while his sister, Brie Siems, won the female division. Battle Creek Enquirer
