Patton is now president and CEO of the Southwestern Michigan Urban League, effective June 9 — he brings a strong background in community engagement from roles at the City of South Bend and the Urban League of South Bend/St. Joseph County. - ➤ Battle Creek and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy will treat Goguac Lake for aquatic weeds today to keep the lake safe and healthy — posted signs require residents and visitors to avoid water contact for 24 hours while Willard Beach Park and its beach remain open. 102.7 WFAT

- ➤ The Battle Creek City Commission will interview four finalists for the city manager position next month after reviewing seven semifinalists on July 15—candidates include Larry Burks, Amanda Zimmerlin, Matt Harline, and Carl Geffken. The public may meet the candidates on Aug. 6 at the DoubleTree by Hilton from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with commissioner interviews scheduled for Aug. 7. Battle Creek Enquirer
- ➤ More than 60 door-to-door vendors, including 55 from Vivint and 6 from Rapid Roofing, are now licensed to offer home security and roofing services in Battle Creek. City officials urge residents to verify vendor identification — they should ask to see a city-issued permit — while Vertical Dynamix surveys utility poles for the new Metronet fiber network.
