ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters responded at 8:40 a.m. Saturday to a house fire on Grand Circle Avenue after a neighbor reported possible occupants trapped—rescue efforts including CPR could not prevent the death of one person and two dogs, and the fire marshal is investigating the cause. 102.7 WFAT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Calhoun County Road Department announced that R Drive N. in Lee Township between Old U.S. 27 and 19 ½ Mile Road will be closed to through traffic beginning at noon Thursday, Aug. 14 following inspections that found significant rust and weakening in the culverts—drivers are advised to follow a clearly marked detour route. - ➤ Amputee Kyle Ploehn from Battle Creek competed in the 98th annual Goguac Lake Swim on Aug. 9 as nearly 100 swimmers took on the 1.15-mile challenge. The 62-year-old, who lost his leg in the Persian Gulf War — supported by local groups — finished in 52 minutes 7 seconds and said he swam to inspire others. Battle Creek Enquirer
