- ➤ Gas prices in the Midwest dropped last week to an average of $3.00 per gallon from $3.04, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. This decrease marks a 12% decline from a year ago and shows that regional prices remain about 3.9% below the national average — with the national price averaging $3.12 per gallon. - ➤ A state Senate committee advanced Michigan bills to ban AI-generated sexual deepfakes of real people without consent—violators could face misdemeanor or felony charges. The bipartisan bills now head to the full Senate floor for a vote. Michigan Public Radio
- ➤ The DNR's new deer hunting regulations took effect on Aug. 1 and change key season dates - extending the late antlerless firearm season to Jan. 11 in select counties and modifying early, archery and muzzleloading rules. Deer harvest reporting remains mandatory and hunters can call 517-284-9453 for assistance as the fall season begins with the Liberty hunt on Sept. 13-14. Battle Creek Enquirer
