  • Honor Credit Union will host a free drive-thru shred event in Battle Creek on Aug. 23 from 9 to 11 a.m. (each household is limited to 10 boxes or bags) so that documents are collected and securely destroyed by partner Data Guardian.  Battle Creek Enquirer

  • Customers in Battle Creek have complained that CURE Auto Insurance used bait-and-switch tactics to avoid paying claims after their vehicles were totaled — auto insurance attorney Steve Gurstin said the tactics break state law and target vulnerable drivers.  Michigan Public Radio
  • Herb and Thelma’s Tavern in Battle Creek operates cash-only to avoid 2—3% credit card fees that would raise burger prices, and owner Joe Fessler said the policy helps keep meals affordable. Local customers like Ralph Kelly support the practice because paying with cash keeps costs low.  FOX 17

  • A dead bird in Calhoun County tested positive for West Nile virus, marking the first confirmed animal case in 2025. Health officials urge residents to use DEET repellents and remove standing water—measures to reduce mosquito bites that spread the virus.  102.7 WFAT
