A Battle Creek doctor who ran Parkside Medical will pay over $700,000 to settle a federal lawsuit after prosecutors accused him of prescribing opioids and benzodiazepines to patients who did not need them—actions that led him to surrender his DEA registration and lose his medical licenses.

Harper Creek Community Schools named their outdoor athletic complex the Ed Greenman Athletic Facility on August 28 to honor former coach and principal Ed Greenman—who led the football program to 18 playoff appearances and 11 conference championships during his 30-year career.

The district also dedicated the driveway between the high and middle schools as Matt Byrne Way to recognize longtime manager Matt Byrne.

School buses are back on the roads as local schools have resumed and drivers must stop when red lights flash and stop arms extend—violators face fines from $100 to $500 and may be subject to jail time if children are injured.
