- ➤ ITC will start flying helicopters today over high-voltage transmission lines in counties including Calhoun and will continue patrols through Oct.—3 to check for damaged equipment and hazardous vegetation as part of a required management program. Battle Creek Enquirer
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Researchers from the University of Florida, Texas A&M, the University of California and the Texas Department of State Health Services say Chagas disease (spread by kissing bugs) is now endemic in the U.S. Michigan residents face little risk unless they travel to areas where the disease is common, with Texas A&M’s program reporting about 10,000 kissing bugs in 31 states since 2013. - ➤ Health experts say people in Michigan should get a flu shot by the end of October to help prevent severe illness during the seasonal flu, which peaks in winter. - ➤ The West Michigan Whitecaps won the Midwest League Championship with a 3—1 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Tuesday night. The team completed a perfect 4—0 playoff run and tied its record for the winningest regular season with 92 wins—its first championship banner in a decade. FOX 17
- ➤ Battle Creek Battle Jacks named new front office leaders for the 2026 season with general manager Sam Connell, field manager Chris Fletcher and Head of Baseball Strategy David Walsh Jr.—each tasked with boosting the on-field play and fan experience through better game-day offerings and upgraded concessions.
