- ➤ Gov. Whitmer visited Hamilton Elementary and Early Childhood Center in Kentwood on Monday to serve lunch to students and urge legislators to pass a budget by October 1 to avoid a government shutdown—she said she believes a deal will be reached despite differences over spending and free meal funding. Lawmakers are debating proposals with spending plans from $78.5 billion to $84.6 billion as they work to resolve the dispute. FOX 17

- ➤ In August, Calhoun County homes listed for sale had a median price of $235,000 — slightly lower than last month’s $237,225 and 6% below August 2024’s $249,900 — with an average size of 1,644 square feet at $139 per square foot.
