COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Charitable Union will host an open house on Oct. 9 from 4—6 p.m. at 85 Calhoun St so residents can tour the facility and learn about its free services.  Battle Creek Enquirer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lakeview High School will hold its Homecoming on Oct. 3 as a parade starts at 5:30 p.m. at 20th Street Plaza—led by teacher Carrie Hindenach—and the varsity football game kicks off at 7 p.m. with Homecoming Royalty crowned at halftime.  Battle Creek Enquirer
  • Today the Lakeview School Board announced that Jamie Stuck from the Class of 1993 will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award and Jeremy Andrews from the Class of 1995 will earn the Community Spirit Award at a reception and during the Homecoming parade and football game on Oct. 3—both being honored for their service and impact on community development.  Battle Creek Enquirer
  • Today, Honor Credit Union awarded $20K to 40 Michigan educators through its 2025 Annual Teacher Awards program—each teacher received a $500 digital gift card to buy learning tools, with recipients including educators from Battle Creek Public Schools and Battle Creek Christian Early Learning Center.  Battle Creek Enquirer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The polar vortex is starting to bring cooler air to Michigan as warm and dry conditions give way to more clouds and gradual drops in temperature. Battle Creek residents can expect their first frost around Oct. 8 — the average date for the area.  Battle Creek Enquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Earlier today, a network disruption affected Battle Creek city administrative systems and interrupted staff access to online operations. Partial connectivity has been restored this afternoon—city staff are investigating the cause while some services may still be affected.  City of Battle Creek

HEALTH NEWS

  • In Michigan, experts say that no law prevents medical students from performing pelvic exams on anesthetized patients without consent—Senate Bills 475 and 476 are now in review and may soon mandate written consent to protect patient safety.  Battle Creek Enquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Battle Creek area high school football games will take place Friday at 7 p.m. with Battle Creek Central facing Gull Lake, Harper Creek hosting Parma Western, Loy Norrix playing Lakeview, and Pennfield hosting Coldwater—coaches highlight key issues like quarterback injuries and streak records that may affect the outcomes.  Battle Creek Enquirer
  • On October 1st, the Cleveland Guardians beat the Detroit Tigers 6-1 in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series after the Tigers left 15 men on base and managed only one hit. Guardians home runs in the seventh and eighth innings forced a deciding Game 3 — with the winner set to face the Seattle Mariners in the Division Series.  FOX 17
