- ➤ KCC Concert Band will host two free concerts at the Binda Performing Arts Center in Battle Creek—'Echoes of Autum' on Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. and 'A Winter’s Note' on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.—to showcase seasonal music for the public. Battle Creek Enquirer
- ➤ The Del Shannon Weekend, a four-day event honoring rock legend Del Shannon, was named Historical Event of the Year by the Historical Society of Michigan during its conference at Alpena Community College from Sept. 26—28. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan Legislature approved a bipartisan $80 billion budget early this morning after missing the October 1 deadline— the measure slightly increases K12 funding, adjusts economic development incentives, and relies on revenue from a new marijuana tax while Governor Whitmer has until Wednesday to sign it. - ➤ Battle Creek high schools join the Best Of Battle Creek series now including outside hitters in volleyball. The series uses nominations from local coaches (such as from St. Philip, Lakeview, and Harper Creek) and invites readers to vote with winners decided by the following Monday. Battle Creek Enquirer
- ➤ Harper Creek’s Dylan Eversole, who had four catches for 103 yards including a 54-yard touchdown against Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills, was named Boys Athlete of the Week while Adeline Higgs earned the Girls honor for her key rounds that helped clinch the Interstate 8 Conference title—both awards presented by Bronson Battle Creek Hospital for the week of Sept. 22-27.
