  • Menards is collecting non-perishable food items for a local pantry—shoppers can drop off donations near the exit doors from Oct. 1 until Oct. 31 to support hunger relief.  Battle Creek Enquirer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kellogg Community College’s marketing team earned 13 Medallion Awards including five Gold — recognitions given by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations for creative work promoting the college during the 2024–25 academic year. The awards were presented Oct. 1 in Indianapolis and honor designs in print and social media that support the college’s mission by involving staff and student workers.  Battle Creek Enquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Whitmer signed a spending plan that funds state government and education until Sept. 30 and helps pay for road repairs by raising gas and diesel taxes and adding a cannabis tax—ending a long budget fight among lawmakers in a split legislature. State lawmakers also cut funds for some departments to lower expenses.  Battle Creek Enquirer

HEALTH NEWS

  • October is Menopause Awareness Month and DNA sequencing is emerging as a tool that will help doctors identify risks for women during menopause. Dr. Celia Egan (director of Obesity Medicine and Metabolic Health with True. Women's Health) said the process will soon guide personalized treatments by analyzing genetic codes.  FOX 17

  • High school football Week 7 in Battle Creek features key contests with Battle Creek Central hosting Kalamazoo Central at 7 p.m. on Friday as division title hopes hang in the balance—Harper Creek faces Hastings and games in Pennfield, Marshall, Climax-Scotts, Bellevue and others round out the schedule for Friday and Saturday.  Battle Creek Enquirer
