ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NOAA said that people in areas like Lansing and Port Austin might have seen the northern lights on Tuesday night, Oct. 28, when a minor geomagnetic storm—yielding a Kp index of 5—made the display visible across 14 states. Forecasts say the lights may also appear Wednesday night in parts of Michigan where the skies are clear.  Battle Creek Enquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials said hundreds of thousands of Michigan residents will lose SNAP food benefits in November because of the federal shutdown—benefits scheduled before November and funds already on accounts remain, and applications will still be processed until federal approval resumes payments.  Michigan Public Radio
  • Michael Nofs, a 26-year veteran of Battle Creek’s IT team, was named Michigan’s Top IT Professional by Mi-GMIS — his leadership on a network refresh project that earned the city an award in 2024 shows his dedication.
