  • Officials with God’s Kitchen of Michigan announced that the Thanksgiving dinner in Kalamazoo has been cancelled due to an alarming lack of donations—while the Battle Creek meal will continue as planned. Reverend William Stein urged community members to send tax-deductible donations by November 15 to support future meals for those most in need.  102.7 WFAT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Consumers Energy sold its 13 hydropower dams for $1 each and will pay to buy back power at $160 per megawatt hour with a 2.5% annual increase in a 30‑year deal—this plan shifts future maintenance and environmental liabilities to a private firm and awaits state and federal approval.  FOX 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Michigan drivers are paying 10-cents less per gallon today with an average of $2.97—Ann Arbor tops prices at $3.07 while Traverse City is the lowest at $2.82, according to Triple-A Michigan.  102.7 WFAT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Music Center is offering two full scholarships for free weekly music lessons or classes for the 2025-26 school year—one covering July 1 to Dec. 31 and another covering Jan 1 to June 30 with applications for the latter closing Dec. 1. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bird lovers in Battle Creek can join free online ‘Birds and Coffee’ chats hosted by W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary—set for Nov. 12 with a focus on swans and geese—and on Dec. 10 featuring rare birds—where participants can share sightings and ask questions via Zoom.  Battle Creek Enquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents can apply for a four-year volunteer seat on the Calhoun County Land Bank Authority Board in Marshall— the role includes attending bi-monthly in-person meetings that last about 1.5 hours and may involve additional duties— and the application must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Dec. 1.  Battle Creek Enquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Battle Creek-area volleyball teams began district tournament play Monday in the Michigan High School Athletic Association state tournament. Harper Creek beat Pennfield 3-1 at Vicksburg High School to advance to the semifinals while Coldwater won 3-0 over Battle Creek Central in Division 1 and early rounds in Divisions 3 and 4 started—Homer lost to Centreville and Union City beat Quincy.  Battle Creek Enquirer
  • Battle Creek Enquirer is asking local readers to vote for Athlete of the Week for Oct 24-29 sports events—nominees include Liam LaSala of Climax-Scotts Football, Abraham McHugh of Marshall Cross Country, Danika Rothchild of Pennfield Volleyball and Kowen Slucter of Harper Creek Football—and the vote remains open.
