EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kellogg Community College released the Spanish edition of its children’s book Blaze va al Campamento, which is free online and available for $4.99 in print to support scholarships for youth summer camps on its North Avenue campus. The book follows mascot Blaze and his classmate Bella as they explore day camps — a sequel to previous Blaze stories.  Battle Creek Enquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After the U.S. Supreme Court issued an emergency stay Friday night, Michigan paused its SNAP benefit payments to follow the ruling and delayed November aid for over a million residents. Officials said payments will remain on hold until the courts or USDA take further action — leaving many low-income households without expected support.  102.7 WFAT

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • New data from Realtor.com showed that the median home sale price in Calhoun County fell to $178,000 in August—an 11% drop from July’s $200,000. Recorded sales slightly decreased as single-family homes and condominiums followed different pricing trends.  Battle Creek Enquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. Philip won its 26th straight district volleyball title on November 7 with a 3-0 win over Climax-Scotts at ST. Philip High School and will face St. Joseph Michigan Lutheran in the Division 4 regional semifinal on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Lakeview beat Portage Central in a four-set Division 1 final to advance to a semifinal against Caledonia at 7 p.m.—Marshall lost its Division 2 final, Bronson advanced in Division 3, and Colon ended its season with a Division 4 loss.  Battle Creek Enquirer
  • Harper Creek won the girls swimming and diving league title yesterday at Harper Creek High School, finishing first with 527 points while Plainwell came in second. Coach Chad Wager said the team broke a 42-year dry spell — top swimmers Ella Laupp and Megan Cook led key wins in individual races and relays.  Battle Creek Enquirer
